Human rights meeting held between the Commission and the Embassy of the United States

Mr. Manuel Micaller, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i of the Embassy of United States in Mongolia, Ms. Heidi Herschede, Political Officer of the Embassy and other officials have hosted the meeting with Mr Byambadorj Jamsran, Chief Commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission and Ms. Ikhtamir Togookhuu, Head of Complaints and Inquiry Division of the Commission, to exchange information about various human rights issues including a violence against children, the worst forms of child labor, reproductive issues of teenage girls and trafficking of humans on December 11, 2018. The meeting has begun with the Mr. Micaller’s emphasis on the US strategy in Indo-Pacific region including Mongolia, while expressing his gratitude towards the Commission for providing insightful information, which contributes to the Embassy’s annual report on the status of human rights and freedoms in Mongolia. Chief Commissioner has highlighted the importance of involvement of civil society in the promotion and protection of human rights. The Commission has recently drafted the Law on Human Rights Defenders in collaboration with civil society. The Commission and the Embassy of the United States will continue their close collaboration through exchanging information on a regular basis and supporting each other in the field of human rights.
