Introductory meetings and training of “Empowering assistant herders throuch human rights training and herders' self-help groups” project held in target soums and provinces

The National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia in collaboration with the Mongolian Women’s Federation is implementing the project on “Empowering assistant herders through human rights training and herders' self-help groups,” to implemented from the beginning of 2020 until the first quarter of 2022, with the support from the European Union. Under the project framework, the project team introduced the project goals and objectives to the Governors, public servants from the Offices of Governors and officers in charge of agriculture and social welfare in target soums and provinces and identified a potential cooperation with each local governing-body. In the course of the meetings, two sides have discussed about creating a database of assistant herders and the beneficiaries of the project, and establishing the self-help groups. As a result, the local governing bodies agreed to provide a data of the assistant herders of their respective soums to the local officers of the NHRCM within the 15th of July.

As one of the main components of the project, the Commission also conducted a human rights training for members of the Mongolian Women’s Federation serving at province and soum level as well as for some public servants from the Offices of Governors in target provinces and soums.

Following the field trips, the project team members gave an interview at Mongol HD Television and Mongolian National Radio about the project activities as well as the initial outcomes. In addition, the Commission also provided the same information to the “Journalists for Human Rights” Club.

The project field trips were held as follows: the first field trip was conducted in Umnudelger, Batnorov and Galshir soums in Khentii province from the 25th to 27th of May, the second one was in Bayandelger, Tuvshinshiree and Erdenetsagaan soums in Sukhbaatar province from the 27th to 30th of May, the third field trip was organized in Khairkhan, Ikhtamir and Erdenemandal soums in Arkhangai province from the 7th to 10th of June, and the fourth one was in Kharkhorin, Khujirt and Bogd soums in Uvurkhangai province from the 10th of June to the 12th of June respectively.
