Commissioners B.Enkhbold and G.Narantuya held online meeting with Mr.Y.Sodbaatar, Chairperson of the State Emergency Commission (SEC) and Deputy Prime Minister, on the current situation of COVID-19 pandemic on 7 January 2021.
Commissioners highlighted the issue of right of return home of people who stuck abroad, especially those in South Korea and proposed to evacuate people with justifiable reasons as a priority.
It was stated that the NHRCM received a high number of complaints due to cancellation of flight Seoul-Ulaanbaatar which was scheduled in November. Among those people who are stuck, people with serious health conditions, pregnant women, people with infants are living in hard conditions which raises serious human rights violations, informed the NHRCM.
In addition, parties agreed to enhance efficacy of the cooperation and exchange information. NHRCM proposed to provide information during the meeting of the SEC.
Mr.Sodbaatar noted that the SEC is taking into consideration of human rights to the extent possible and explained the necessity that certain decisions need to be changed or/and regulated in accordance with current situation. He then added that in conformity with the Demand on the issues of “people stuck” in South Korea provided by the NHRCM, the SEC is taking necessary measures within their resource limit, including evacuation of 34 people in December.
Although, current situation of the pandemic is challenging and causing human rights issues, Mr. Sodbaatar emphasized the importance of collaborating on the matter of human rights and exchange of information.
