The Government and NHRCM to cooperate for the promotion of human rights-oriented society

Chief Commissioner Khunan Jargalsaikhan, Commissioner Dondov Sangisharav, and Commissioner Enkhbold Batzeveg received the representatives of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, led by Ms. Elina Steinerte and Matthew Gillett, on 5 October 2022.

At the meeting, Chief Commissioner Khunan Jargalsaikhan introduced recent reforms in Mongolia’s laws on human rights, the Commissions functions, the 20th and 21st Status Report on Human Rights and Freedoms in Mongolia, preparations for the introduction of Mendez Principles, and exchanged opinions on the duration of the arrest and detention of a suspect, accused, defendant on criminal investigation procedures and Law on Pardon adopted by the Parliament in 2021 with delegates.

The delegation will visit Ulaanbaatar and provinces to meet with representatives of government officials, civil society groups, and other relevant stakeholders during the visit from 3-14 October; within its mandate, the working group will exchange opinions and release recommendations.

The Working Group will share their preliminary observations at a press conference on 14 October 2022, at 12:00 local time in the Conference Room of the UN House building.
