Public discussion held on the Draft Law on Legal status of Human Rights Defenders

Public discussion on the Draft Law on Legal status of Human Rights Defenders, submitted by Mr. D.Tsogtbaatar, member of Parliament and led by Mrs. Ts.Munkhtsetseg, Member of Parliament and the head of working group, was held on 16 January 2021, 11-2pm on Zoom.

Mrs. Ts. Munkhtsetseg inaugurated the discussion which was hosted by Mr. M.Unenbat, senior advisor of the working group of the Standing Committee on Legal Affairs. After the opening, Commissioner D.Sunjid gave presentation on necessity of the Law on the Legal status of Human rights defenders and provided information on NHRCM Commissioner’s perspective. Mrs. B.Altantuya, Executive Director of Amnesty International Mongolia, delivered speech on international practices in protecting human rights defenders. Member of Parliament D.Tsogtbaatar provided relevant information on the Draft Law on the Legal Status of Human Rights Defenders.

Over 60 participants expressed their opinions in the online discussion, including Parliament members Mr. D.Tsogtbaatar, Mr. J.Sukhbaatar, Mrs. Ts.Munkhtsetseg, Mrs. S.Odontuya, Acting Chief Commissioner Mr. J.Khunan, Commissioners Mrs. Kh.Munkhzul, Mrs. G.Narantuya, Mrs. D.Sunjid and Mr. B.Enkhbold, representatives from the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, UN Resident Coordinator Office, civil societies for human rights, Human Rights Forum, international organizations, local citizens and citizens residing abroad.
