Study tem of the NHRCM visits the Philippines

The National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia plans to conduct human rights impact assessment in mining industry in 2015. In this context, the representatives of the NHRCM, headed by Chief Commissioner Byambadorj, visited the Philippines jointly with the Swiss Cooperation and Development Agency from 9 to 11 March 2015.

The NHRCM team had meetings with the officials of the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines and government agencies, representatives of NGOs and mining businesses, and visited couple of mining sites.
In the Philippines the government pays significant attention to the mining industry, and civil society has achieved considerable success in undertaking independent monitoring over the activities of the government organizations and private sector and ensuring that these actors comply with standards and norms of the international treaties and conventions. The Commission on Human Rights made important achievements in undertaking human rights impact assessment within mining sector in cooperation with international organizations in 2014.
